Mina Kay Plantz Johnson SPARTANBURG SC- Mina Kay Plantz Johnson, age 71, Formerly of Ohio, went home to be with her Lord, July 28, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, SC. Mina Kay was born June 18, 1941, in Pocahontas IA. to Charles F. and Evelyn Peterson Plantz. She was a graduate of Pocahontas High School, class of 1960. Mina received an Associate’s Degree from Luther Junior College, Wahoo Nebraska, now Midland University, Freemont Nebraska. While attending Luther College, she met her husband, Robert William Johnson, of Moline IL. and subsequently married him in her hometown church, Trinity Lutheran on August 19, 1961. The couple resided in Norfolk NE. where Mina embarked on her first elementary school teaching position. Soon after, the couple relocated to Moline IL. where the birth of their three children, Michael Scott, Julie Kay and Bradley Charles marked a new chapter in their life together. The family moved to several places over the next few years including Rock Island IL., Pekin IL., Marion OH., Columbus OH. and finally retiring in Spartanburg SC. Mina’s professional career included bank teller, elementary school teacher, interior designer, church secretary and hospital staff coordinator. She retired from Employee Benefit Management Corp where she held the position of Administrative Assistant for 20+ years. Mina is survived by her husband of 50+ years, Bob; 3 children, Scott and Chell Johnson of Bloomingburg OH, Julie Johnson of Lewis Center OH, and Brad and Leigh Johnson of Odessa FL; seven grandchildren, Brenda and Merl Peters, Becky and Ron Hague, Andrea Park, Abigail Johnson, Bradley Charles “Charlie” Johnson II and John Johnson; one great grandchild, Olivia Leigh Park-Cole. Condolences may be sent to 163 Ravines Lane Spartanburg SC 29301. At her request, a closed service for immediate family only will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at JOY Lutheran Church located at 3980 Moore-Duncan Hwy, Moore, SC 29369. Open house for extended family and friends will be given in her honor on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11:30 am at JOY Lutheran Church.
