Kathryn Crosby Easterling

Spartanburg, SC- Kathryn Crosby Easterling, wife of the late John Lawrence Easterling, Jr., died Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Born in Sumter, SC on June 17, 1929 and raised in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Frederick Crosby. She was a graduate of Winthrop College. Kathryn and John lived their adult lives in Hartsville and Spartanburg. Mrs. Easterling was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Beth Easterling Smoak (Michael) of Pinopolis, SC, and Glorian Easterling Hayes of Spartanburg; two sons, John Lawrence Easterling III (Carroll) of Spartanburg, and William Fisher Easterling (Tracie) of Pauline; her grandchildren, Kathryn Smoak Nexsen (Josh), Michael Carlyle Smoak, Jr., Robert Cates Hayes, Jr. (Mary), Elisabeth Easterling Hayes, Glorian Lawrence Hayes, Elizabeth Easterling Shirley (William), John Lawrence Easterling, IV, Henry Chambers Easterling, Jean Marie Shuba ( Zach), William Fisher Easterling, Jr., and Charles Caldwell Easterling; her great grandchildren, Elisabeth Chapin Nexsen, Joshua Taber Nexsen, Jr., Charlotte Hudson Nexsen, and Drayton Elisabeth Hayes. She is also survived by her brother, James Frederick Crosby, Jr. (Gena) of Columbia, SC; and her sister, Jean Crosby Gasque of Elloree, SC. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her son in-law, Robert Cates Hayes. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 14th, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, John and Carroll Easterling, 1016 Four Mile Branch Road, Spartanburg. A memorial service to honor her life will be held on Friday, May 15th at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Joanne R. Hull and The Reverend Dr. Thomas E. Evans officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Judy Bradshaw Children’s Foundation, c/o Spartanburg County Foundation, 424 E.
