Jesse Eugene "Gene" Brown

Jesse Eugene “Gene” Brown (74), resident of Greenwood, SC, passed away on January 1, 2017.Gene was born on May 10, 1942 in Spartanburg County SC to Ralph Brown and Clara Godfrey. A veteran of the US Army, Gene served his country honorably. Following his military service, Gene worked as a security professional, most prominently with Flagstar as Assets Protection Director; and retiring as Director of Security for Carolina Panthers LLC. A licensed private pilot, Gene was an integral member of the Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport gang. Gene was also an avid fisherman whose lifelong retirement dream was fulfilled each time he dropped a line in the water of Lake Greenwood.Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Walter Brown. Gene is survived by his wife, Babbs Brown; stepson, McCay Baker; son, Jay Brown; grandson, Jesse Brown; brother, Charles Brown; and brother, Bobby Brown.A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Wofford College in the Richardson building, Harley Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Gene’s honor may be directed in support of The Keep Pounding Fund for Carolinas HealthCare System’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute (givecarolinas.org/heart).
