Aileen Lawton Belmont, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, June 21, 2025 at her home. Born June 14, 1928 in Bartow, FL, she was the daughter of the late John Garnet Lawton and Lawrita Schoen Lawton. She attended Converse College.
She was a longtime member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent and also St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, where she sang in the church choir for many years. Aileen was an avid gardener and gourmet cook. She enjoyed the Active Older Adult classes at the YMCA and was a lover of bridge. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always.
Survivors include her children, Harold Stanton Belmont (Jayne), Rebecca Belmont Bagwell (William), Cynthia Belmont Bell (Brenna), and Gayle Belmont Bain (Don); grandchildren, Nicholas Lawton Belmont, Jr. (Logen), Kesler Belmont Bridgforth (Fort), Drew MacArthur Belmont (Rachel), Benjamin Coleman Belmont, Ansley Gail Foster Belmont, William Trevathan Bell, Samuel David Acosta (Deanna), Gabriela Aileen Acosta (Lockwood), and Rebekah Maria Acosta; and great-grandchildren, Madeleine Louise Belmont, David Lawton Bridgforth, William Belmont Bridgforth, Grant Lawton Belmont, Jack Louis Belmont, Samuel David Acosta, Jr., Emilia Colette Acosta, Benjamin Southall Acosta, and Sofia Maria Lynn Freeman.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Nicholas Belmont; son, Nicholas Lawton Belmont; grandson, William Sidney Bagwell, Jr.; and sister, Ann Summerlin Tillman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00AM on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, officiated by The Rev. Christie Walton and The Rev. Paula Griffin. Interment will follow in the Bell Tower Columbarium.
