Albert "Tilly" Tillotson

Spartanburg, SC- Albert Tillotson, 99, husband of the late Betty F. Tillotson, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

Born August 18, 1922 in Spartanburg, SC, he was a son of the late Howard F. and Bernice C. Tillotson. Albert was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and a longtime member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He honorably served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. Albert joined the Spartanburg City Fire Department in 1950 and was named Fire Chief on January 1, 1967. He served in that position until his retirement in 1986. In addition, he was a member of the Spartanburg County Fire Chief’s Association, SC Fire Chiefs Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs, and served as association president of the South Carolina Firefighters Association from 1980 until 1981. While working for the City of Spartanburg, he also served as treasurer of the Spartanburg City Employees Credit Union.

Mr. Tillotson is survived by his daughter, Sandra Tillotson Woody and her husband, Michael, of Loganville, GA; grandson, Andrew Woody of Loganville, GA; granddaughter, Caroline Woody of Novi, MI; son in-law, Danny Rogers of Lyman, SC; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jane Tillotson Rogers; brothers, Joseph R. Tillotson, Everett B. Tillotson, Dr. John H. Tillotson; a sister, Elizabeth Tillotson Towe; and many other beloved family members.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 16th, 11:00-11:45AM at Dunbar Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12noon in the Chapel.

Burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
