Alfort Dee Woody, born February 23, 1957, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026.
Alfort was the beloved husband of Christine “Tina” Buchanan Woody, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage, love, and steadfast partnership. He was the son of the late Lonnie and Dolly Woody and was preceded in death by his sister, Imer Gean Woody, and brother, Alvin Woody.
A man deeply connected to the land and the outdoors, Alfort found his greatest joy hunting, fishing, gardening, and—by his own telling— “fighting his tractor.” His love for animals was evident in his lifelong habit of rescuing feral cats; his final companion in that mission was a cat named Tigger, who held a special place in his heart.
Alfort was a devoted member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church and Fernwood Baptist Church. He was also a proud Mason and Shriner, values that reflected his commitment to fellowship, service, and faith.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sisters, Betty Jean Poteat and Lucille Pulliam; brothers, Lonnie “L.G.” Woody (Diane), Jimmy Woody, and Arthur Woody (Donna); sister-in-law, Marie Woody; his special “little brother,” Jim Pulliam (Vicky); and his trusted sidekick, Bryan Gosnell.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Chad Owens for giving Alfort the gift of one final hunting adventure—a memory that will be forever treasured. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the late Retired Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army, William “Bill” Robinson for his enduring mentorship, treasured friendship, wise counsel, and guidance throughout the years.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, conducted by The Reverend Cindy Adair Inman and The Reverend Dr. Tina Woody.
Burial will be at a later date at Sunset Memorial Park.
Alfort will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, devotion to family, and the simple, honest life he lived—one rooted in faith, nature, and love.
