Alva Beckham Blankenship

After 91 years of faithful service to her Lord and Savior, Alva Gladney Beckham Blankenship, went peacefully into His arms on March 30, 2024. Alva was born December 19, 1932, to Joseph and Sara Beckham of Winnsboro, SC. She is predeceased in death by her husband, Hub, her parents, four brothers, and her beloved sister.
Alva was a loving mother of three. She spent the majority of her life in real estate. She served as a hostess for the Spartanburg Red Carpet for many years. She was named Spartanburg Realtor of the Year and was in the Million Dollar Club many times.
Alva served the Christian community in many capacities: Sunday School teacher; Sunday School Director; Chairwoman of the Spartanburg Christian Women’s Club; member of the 555 Circle; and supporter of Bibles for the World. She sang in the choirs of First Baptist Spartanburg and Morningside Baptist Church, where she was a member. Alva loved to sing, especially her favorite hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”
Alva was an extraordinary cook and famous for her rolls. Many people tasted them while gathered around her beautiful table for delicious food and sweet fellowship.
She was a loving and giving grandmother who made lots of memories for her family! She will be remembered as an example to her children and grandchildren of a true southern lady living a life of generosity and service, as well as loving those within her reach. She told great stories and many jokes.
Alva is survived by her three children: Hub Jr. (Brenda); Sally Lane (Lynn); and Kenn (Mitu); seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Lee Beckham; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Milestones Church, Spartanburg. Officiating will be the Rev. Hub Blankenship, Jr. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm before the service. The family will hold a private burial.
