Atlee Strange Pettit

November 23, 1941 — October 25, 2023

Atlee Strange Pettit, 81, of Roebuck, SC. went to his eternal home with his Lord and Saviour on October 25, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family at home. He was the loving and doting husband of Sharon G. Pettit for 59 1/2 years. His legacies left loving him are two daughters, Julie Cooper (Brian) of Pauline and Kay Kirby (Tyler) of Boiling Springs; son, Steve (Paige) of Roebuck; loving grandchildren, Jacob, Brock (Destiney), Julianne, Goldie (Kevin), Andrew, John Tyler, and Mills; and great-grandchildren, Brooks and Rhett. He loved them all and lived out Christ’s example of kindness, humbleness, and meekness. He is also survived by his brother, Bobby, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John Lewis and Goldie; brothers, Curtis, Roy, and Wayne; and sisters, Leukiva and Allie. He was a devoted, lifelong member of Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent. His passion for his family was seconded only by his love of bluegrass and gospel music. He was previously employed with Mortex Chemicals and retired from Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, Operational Manager. He was a lifetime member of the Hejaz Shriners and Roebuck Masonic Lodge; and Big Oaks Men's Club. He was a soft-spoken servant to every person he met and an honorable man. If he was not at his hash house cooking hash, you could find him in a deer stand. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman and Lifetime sponsor of The Harry Hampton Wildlife Fund. His loving example would be for us to be slow to speak, quick to listen, slow to anger and treat all with kindness and Grace. Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 1:00PM to 2:45PM, with a church service beginning at 3:00PM, conducted by Rev. Richard Thomas, Rev. Tyler Kirby, and Rev. Dr. Bob. E. Pettit. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Special thanks to his loving caregiver Teresa Pearson and Agape Hospice.
