Avra Callie Brannon-Hammett

November 18, 1987 — December 25, 2021

Avra Callie Brannon Hammett, 34, of Columbia, South Carolina, died on December 25, 2021. Her loss was completely unexpected, and the family is deeply saddened.

Avra, the daughter of Kathy Brown Brannon and the late Robert Gettys Brannon, Jr., was born on November 18, 1987, in Roswell, GA.

She attended Gaffney High School and the University of South Carolina, where she earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master of Art in Teaching of Special Education. In addition, she was a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and taught for the CarolinaLIFE program at The University of SC. After graduating from graduate school, she was employed by The Hammett Clinic of Columbia.

Avra is survived by her husband, Dr. David Hall Hammett; daughters, Caraway and Carlysle, her mother, Kathy Brown Brannon; brother, Robert Gettys Brannon, III; and many aunts, uncles, and loving family members.

She was predeceased by her father, Robert Gettys Brannon, Jr.

Avra was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaffney, S.C., the Junior League of Columbia, and volunteered for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She had a passion for working with children with disabilities.

Avra, you will be truly missed and never forgotten. God has a reason for everything, though we may not always understand. Give Daddy a big hug; he and his “sweet pea” are back together. The family thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Gaffney, with a private burial immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Able South Carolina, a nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities, https://www.able-sc.org/donate/

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3: 5-6)
