Barbara Jean Parton Sherbert of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the age of 87. She was born in Spartanburg on May 4, 1938 to the late Cromer R. and Callie H. Parton.
A faithful member of Horton Memorial Wesleyan Church, Barbara loved music and often played the piano both at home and at church, sharing her gift with those around her. Gospel music held a special place in her heart, and she continued singing her beloved hymns throughout her life.
Barbara enjoyed cooking for her loved ones and knitting and crocheting, lovingly making items that will be treasured for years to come. She was known for her loving, caring, and tender-hearted nature, always offering kindness and comfort to those she met. Above all else, Barbara cherished her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with them, especially her grandchildren, who held a very special place in her heart.
She is survived by her sons, Randy Sherbert (Rosa) and Michael Sherbert (Brenda); grandchildren, Myranda, Dennis, Tracy, Moe, Matt, Jessica, Lacey, and Tina; fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Janice Thompson and Gail McKittrick. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow W. Sherbert; daughter, Maxine Whitehead (Steve); grandchildren, Callie and Joey; great-grandchild, Mekkell; brothers, J.R. Parton, Delbert Parton, Robert Parton; and sisters, Eloise Deyton, Ezzie Worley, Irene Inman, and Mary Sherbert.
Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM, Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Shane Williams. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of both White Oak at North Grove and Spartanburg Regional Hospice for their loving care of Barbara.
