Betty Ann Smith, 82, of Spartanburg, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026. She was born December 20, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas to Raymond and Elizabeth Millar. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Egerton Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Stacy Smith Parker (Bert) of Sumter and Lisa Smith Armbruster (John) of Spartanburg; her six grandchildren, Trey Parker, Erin Parker Campbell (Adam), Catherine Parker, John Thomas Parker, Bryant Armbruster, and Olivia Armbruster; her great grandson, Lachlan Campbell; and her sister, Linda Hall Froboese.
She was married to the love of her life, John, for 61 years. She was affectionately known by her family as Nana. She loved beach trips and banana bread breakfasts with her grands, cooking for family gatherings in her home, traveling to Texas to visit relatives, Bible studies and Circle meetings at Tyger River Presbyterian Church and Covenant Presbyterian Church, and get together with her “Forget Me Not” friends.
She was an avid reader her entire life. She had a great sense of humor and loved to write funny poems for her daughters. She had extraordinary attention to detail that served her well as a paralegal. She worked for Knie White & Anthony Law Firm of Spartanburg for more than 20 years. She will be missed, but her family is rejoicing that she is with her Savior. A handwritten note in her Bible highlighted Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”
The family will hold a private service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
