Carolyn Whitsett Burns, 79, of Spartanburg, SC when to be with the Lord Saturday November 29, 2025 at Spartanburg Medical Center Spartanburg, SC.

Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Thursday December 4, 2025 in Greenview Cemetery with The Rt. Rev. William O, Gregg, Ph.D officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

A native of Reidsville, NC, she was a daughter of the late Horace Alfred Whitsett, Jr. and the late Charlotte Turner Whitsett and had lived in Spartanburg, SC for the past 47 years. A retired legal secretary having worked for several law offices in the Spartanburg area, she was a member of Church of the Advent Episcopal Church in Spartanburg, SC. Carolyn enjoyed reading, cooking and working in her yard and flowers. She loved to be with her family and looked forward to family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Horace Alfred Whitsett, III.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years: Barrett W. “Barry” Burns of the home, her son: Barrett W. Burns, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Greenville, SC, her daughter: Elizabeth Blair Burns (Trey Smith) of Spartanburg, SC, and her grandchildren: Palmer Brock Burns, Ian Bloodworth and Bonner Bloodworth of Greenville, SC

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to: The Spartanburg Humane Society 150 Dexter Rd. Spartanburg, SC 29303.
