It is with great sadness that we share the news of the unexpected passing of Cecil David Beard on Friday, July 24, 2026. He was the second son born to the Rev. Dr. C.H. and Elizabeth H. Beard and was predeceased by them both.
His early years were spent in Hemingway, SC, before moving with his family to Tigerville, SC. He graduated from Blue Ridge High School and North Greenville Junior College, before completing his education at College of Charleston. Upon graduation, he began a 47-year career with Milliken and Company and Pacolet Milliken.
David was a very active member of Southside Baptist Church for over 24 years. As a member, he served on the Board of Deacons, Director of the Adult 5 Sunday Class, usher and greeter, and various committees in support of the activities of the Church. He also served on the Boards of Habitat for Humanity, the Spartanburg Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and InYou Ministries.
He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing and was an avid SC Gamecock fan and Gardner Webb basketball fan. He also loved attending basketball, volleyball and soccer games supporting his grandchildren.
Beard leaves behind his wife of over 26 years, Deborah M. Beard; his son, Hudson Beard of Englewood, CO; his daughter, Ginny Luther (Jeremy) and grandson, Bryson Luther, his princess, Kendall Luther, and grandson, August Luther, all of Boiling Springs, NC. He had two brothers, Austin Beard (Lori) of Georgetown, SC, and Johnny Beard (Michelle) of Murrells Inlet, SC. His family also included nieces and nephews, many cousins, and special "in laws". He was blessed with many friends because of his smile, kindness and caring personality - he knew no strangers.
Visitation will be 12:30-1:45pm on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Southside Baptist Church. A service to celebrate his life and legacy will follow at 2:00pm, conducted by Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson.
In remembrance of David, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
