Charles Edward Stavely, Jr.

Charles Edward Stavely, Jr. died on December 15, 2025. Charles, the son of Nancy and Charles E. Stavely, was born in Paducah, Kentucky on July 20, 1940.

Charles received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Lambuth College and Memphis State. He was a math professor at University of South Carolina Upstate for forty years.

Charles was an active member of Central United Methodist where he served on numerous committees. His hobbies and interests included Piedmont Sertoma Club, UMC Men's Prayer Breakfast, Golf, Dancing, The Rifles/Spartans, and Gamecocks.

He is survived by his wife, Benita, daughter Shelly Stavely Phillips (Stephen), sister Linda Crump, and grandchildren, Beth and Zachary Butterfield. Additionally, Charles is survived by his stepchildren, Susan Scoggins Jolly (Randy); Stephen Scoggins (Alice); grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Jolly Ward (Justin), Sarah Scoggins, and Matthew Scoggins (Chelsea); and four great grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Central United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 19, 2025. The family will receive friends following the service.

In memory of Charles, contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church.
