Clyde Mahlon Bailey

Spartanburg, SC – Clyde Mahlon Bailey, 89, passed away on November 12th, 2023. Mahlon was born on April 4th, 1934, in Anderson, S.C., to the late Thomas and Jessie Maret Bailey. A proud alumnus of Greenwood High School, where he enjoyed playing football. He furthered his education at Lander University and went on to serve in the Navy, demonstrating his commitment to both learning and service to his country. Mahlon’s professional journey included employment at notable organizations, such as Abney Mills, Boiler Tube Co. Of America, and Liberty Life Corp. His career as a computer programmer reflected his passion for working with computers. Mahlon was an avid golfer. However, his true treasures in life were his family. Family always came first for Mahlon. Mahlon's spiritual foundation was evident in his strong faith and commitment to attending church. His devotion to God was unwavering, and even when the doors to the church were locked, he had his own key. Sports held a special place in Mahlon's heart, particularly his love for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Whether it was football, basketball, or any other sport, if his school was playing, Mahlon was watching, cheering on his team. Mahlon is survived by his son , Mark Bailey (Tami) of Spartanburg, and his daughter, Allison Payne (Scott) of Pauline, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Cameron Bailey (Kendra), Jason Harrison, Nicholas Krull, Emily Krull, Andrew Krull, Austin Payne, and great grandchildren; Kristian and Dillon Harrison, and Allie Claire, Madisyn Kate, and Macie Rae Bailey. In addition to his wife, Nancy, Clyde was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Lee Geter, and his siblings; James H., Joel O., Robert D., and Larry F. Bailey. A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 18th, in the chapel at The Mill, with a visitation starting at 3:00PM, and a service to follow at 4:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to family friends who are missionaries serving in South Asia.
