David Lincoln Atkins of Boiling Springs, SC passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at the age of 85. He was born in Portsmouth, OH on May 5, 1940 to the late John Thomas and Mary Goodman Atkins.
He earned his master’s degree in education from Southern Adventist University and began his career teaching elementary and junior high school. He later transitioned into the insurance industry, becoming an insurance agent. David opened Atkins Insurance Agency in the mid-1980s, where he faithfully served his community for many years.
A devoted member of the Spartanburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, David was deeply involved in his church family. He taught Sabbath School and participated in mission trips to the Russia in 1993 and 1994, as well as to Bulgaria in 2005, sharing his faith with others around the world.
David enjoyed traveling and especially loved going on cruises. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he played basketball in high school, college, and church leagues, and he enjoyed golfing for over 40 years. He will be remembered as outgoing and outspoken, with a love for telling stories and making others laugh. He had a way of bringing joy to those around him and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Beverly Miller Atkins; sons, Daniel Lincoln Atkins of Lenore, NC, Timothy David Atkins (Nora) of Charlotte, NC, and David Michael Atkins (Natalie) of Owings Mills, MD; daughter, Terri Wynn Atkins of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Summer Grace Atkins, Morgan Paige Atkins, Brouke Danielle Atkins, Christopher James Hensley (Amber), and Evan Kent Hensley (Kayla); and great-grandchildren, Callen, Bryce, Levi, and Emily Elizabeth Hensley. David was predeceased by seven older brothers.
Graveside services will be 1:00 PM on Friday, April 10, 2026 in Heritage Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev. Jim Davis.
