Douglas Tinsley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, just days before his 84th birthday. Born on February 25, 1942, Douglas lived a life defined by service, adventure, dedication, and deep love for his family and community.
A proud graduate of Spartanburg High School, Class of 1960, Douglas went on to attend Wofford College, where he remained a devoted alumnus and active member of the Terrier Club throughout his life. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. As a Vietnam Veteran, Douglas completed two tours of duty and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. His courage, discipline, and patriotism were lifelong sources of pride.
Following his military service, Douglas brought that same work ethic and integrity to his professional life as the owner and operator of Tinsley Automotive and Tinsley Truck and Car. Known for his honesty and craftsmanship, he built not only a successful business but lasting relationships within the community.
Douglas had a passion for the outdoors and adventure. Whether enjoying time at Aspen Outdoors beach, participating in ski club outings, or simply exploring new places, he embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He was a dedicated Scout Master and soccer coach, mentoring countless young people and shaping lives with patience, leadership, and encouragement.
He was also a proud Shriner, committed to fellowship and service. Alongside his beloved wife, Douglas found great joy on the ballroom floor, where the two shared many happy evenings dancing together.
Above all, Douglas treasured his family. He was a devoted husband to Martha Tinsley, a loving father to the late Nolen and Jeffery Tinsley, grandfather to Lauren, John, Odessa, Oryan, a proud great-grandfather to Stone Matthew Tinsley, and brother to the late Joyce Tinsley. Some of his sweetest moments were spent drinking smoothies with his great-grandson, creating simple yet unforgettable memories filled with laughter and love.
Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorials services will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel, with Military Honors by The United States Army Honor Guard.
In memory of Douglas, contributions may be made to Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 1320 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
Douglas Tinsley will be remembered for his steadfast faith, generous spirit, adventurous heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the family he cherished.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with a lasting legacy.
