Edward Vincent Borg of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 at the age of 86. He was born on July 10, 1939, in New York City to the late Josephine and Emmanuel Borg.
Ed enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard Reserves for eight years. Following his service, he worked for over thirty years in the textile industry. Many of those years were dedicated to Hoechst Fibers, later known as Hoechst Celanese.
An avid fisherman throughout his life, Ed found peace and joy on the water and rarely passed up an opportunity to cast a line. He also had a deep passion for show pigeons, becoming a respected competition judge known for his knowledge and dedication. He and his beloved wife, Jan, shared a lifelong love of dancing, especially ballroom and shag. Ed’s lively spirit and smooth moves earned him the affectionate nickname, “The Cha-Cha King.” A faithful communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Ed valued his church family and lived his life with kindness, warmth, and devotion to those he loved.
Ed is survived by his wife, Janice Jones Borg; three sons, Thomas (Paula), Steven, and Christopher Borg; stepson, Matthew Hines (Shannon); stepdaughter, Katherine ”Katie” Hines Soto (Jeremy); and brother, Anthony “Tony” Borg. He was also Papa Eddie or PopPop to ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Emmanuel Borg.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Friday, June 5, 2026 in The Episcopal Church of The Advent. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
