Elizabeth Stephens Cooksey

January 1, 1926 — July 6, 2021

Elizabeth "Betty" Fay Stephens was born January 1, 1926 in Spartanburg, SC, and she went peacefully to be with our Lord in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 6, 2021. In her 95 years on this earth, she touched countless lives with her sweetness and her superb biscuit-making skills that she lovingly passed down to anyone who wanted to learn. Betty joined her beloved husband of 58 years, Oscar Cooksey, whom she married just three days after they met in 1944. They were faithful members of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Moore, SC for over 40 years, and Betty held her fellow members of Bethlehem close to her heart even into her last days. Betty is survived by her daughters, Ann Cooksey Barone (Phil) of Spartanburg, SC and Stephanie Cooksey Morris (Tim) of Savannah, GA, her granddaughters, Molly and Meredith Morris, her grandson, Steven Barone, and her great-granddaughter, Salem Elizabeth Morris. She is also survived by her precious sister, Eleanor Moore (Stanley) of Spartanburg, SC, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who all loved her dearly. Along with Oscar, Betty is also predeceased by her parents, Mae and Fred Stephens of Spartanburg, and by five of her siblings, Frank Stephens, Louise Smith, Rusty Stephens, Nancy Carlton, and Baby Patricia Stephens. The family will receive friends Friday, July 9th, 2:00-2:45PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00PM, officiated by Reverend Jim Oliver and Reverend Joey Burnett. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Building Fund, P O Box 229, Roebuck, SC 29376
