George William Durham, III

March 24, 1937 — January 8, 2026

George William Durham III passed away after a brief but difficult illness. He lived his life with humility, strength, and quiet grace, leaving this world a brilliant warrior in every sense. Born in Louisiana, George was deeply proud of his heritage and the life he built through dedication and integrity.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; his children, George William Durham IV and Margaret Tes Pearo (Patrick); his grandchildren, Malachi, Blake, and Bella Joye; and his great-grandchild, Nevaeh. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Hayward (Kim), Elizabeth (Childs), and Margaret (Vann); and his step-grandchildren, Hays, Sam, Jack, Carlisle, Rucker, Sully, and Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his father, George William Durham II; mother, Lila Fenet Durham; brother, John Caldwell Durham; sisters, Margaret Durham Zuber and Jackie Fenet Durham; and son, Charles Ashton Durham.

George was a graduate of Louisiana State University and a proud and active member of the United States Marine Corps. He later moved to the Greenville area with the Luzianne Coffee Company. An entrepreneur at heart, he went on to start a small printing company before continuing his career in sales with Martin Printing.

George found his greatest joy outdoors, surrounded by good friends—hunting birds and ducks or riding horseback in pursuit of foxes. In his later years, he especially enjoyed “bringing along” young pups to hunt with his dear friend, John Gramling.

A proud and kind gentleman, George possessed a quiet charisma and steady presence that drew people to him. He treasured his family and friendships and delighted in cooking, gardening, opera, and traveling with Elizabeth. George Durham will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family will hold a private memorial service.

In memory of George, contributions may be made to Episcopal Church of The Advent, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
