Henry Jackson Bochette Kohl, 70, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 21, 2025. He was born in Sumter, SC on May 27, 1955 to the late Marie Hensley Brax and the late Eugene Bochette. He was a graduate of James F. Byrnes High School and served in the United States Navy and was a contractor and truck driver before settling into the role working beside his mother running Cheese & Wine Etc., Ltd., Heavenly Ham and Vern’s Restaurant, most recently located at LeBaron Plaza in Spartanburg. He was a member of the Spartanburg Optimist Club and was involved in many other civic and community organizations.
Henry was an avid pool player and wine connoisseur. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never missed a family gathering at Lake Murray and Lake Greenwood. He loved all of his family, friends and especially his children, biological and chosen, they were loved the same. Henry also loved all animals, especially his white throated monitor, Spike, his two Saint Bernards, Max and Sally and his cat Mufasa.
Henry is survived by his beloved and cherished daughter, Savannah Kohl, his devoted daughter Dawn Kunak (Troy), his son, best friend and namesake, Henry JB Kohl, II (Emily) and his chosen son, Cameron Loudermilk. He was so proud of his three grandchildren, James Kunak II (Tiffany), Landon Kunak (Tatum) and Jenna Kunak (Silas), and his two great-grandchildren, Haidyn Kunak and Millie Kunak.
Henry is also survived by his siblings, Sandy Wilson of Pacolet, SC, Sue Campbell of Inman, SC, Steve Kohl (Sue) of Salley, SC, Justin Kohl (Angie) of Georgetown, SC, Chip Herbert, Jr. (Dada) of Leesburg, GA, David Bochette of Sumter and Ronnie Bochette also of Sumter, SC and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He will also be remembered by his forever friends, Lisa Preston and Billy Galarneau who loved him unconditionally.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home.
