Irvin Keith Comer of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at the age of 86. He was born in Spartanburg on March 4, 1940 to the late Ida Mae and Albert Comer.
Keith, lovingly known to so many as “Big Keith” and “Grandaddy,” was a man whose life was defined by hard work, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. A true jack of all trades, Keith possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and built a successful career through his determination and vision. Over the years, he found success in real estate, automobile sales, and the amusement industry, always approaching each endeavor with integrity, perseverance, and a strong work ethic.
While Keith’s professional accomplishments were many, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted father who loved his boys beyond measure, a proud grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, and a deeply devoted great-grandfather who absolutely adored his great-grandchildren—Jet, Rylee, and Mika. They brought him endless joy, and nothing made him smile more than watching them grow, laugh, and create memories together. His love for them was unconditional, and they will forever carry the warmth of his love in their hearts.
Keith also found great peace and happiness on his beloved farm. Whether he was bush hogging the fields, tending to the land, or simply sitting by the pond enjoying God’s beautiful creation, the farm was his sanctuary. It was there that he felt most at home, surrounded by the quiet beauty of nature.
When he wasn’t working or on the farm, Keith loved escaping to the beach, where the warmth of the sun and the sound of the waves offered him a chance to relax and reflect. Though he was known as a tireless worker and provider, he also understood the importance of appreciating life’s simple blessings.
Keith will be remembered as a man of strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom—a devoted provider, a respected businessman, and, above all, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the countless lives he touched through his love, generosity, and example.
Though he will be deeply missed, Keith’s love and legacy will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Keith is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Lee Comer; sons, Keith Comer, Jr. and Kerry Comer (Angie); grandchildren, Cara Hodge (Josh), Sully Comer, and Caroline Comer (Francesco); and great-grandchildren, Jet Hodge, Rylee Trey Hodge, and Michelangelo Mazzeo. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Doyle Comer, Ronnie Comer, Shirley Warlick Dean, Katherine O’Shields, Pauline Gowan, and Ed Comer; and beloved grandson, Irvin Keith “Trey” Comer III.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Judy Weber, Teresa Oliver, and Julie Alfred for all they have done.
Visitation will be 3:00-3:45 PM on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Memorial services will follow at 4:00 PM, conducted by Rev. Mike Hamlet.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Keith to a charity of your choice.
