James Alfred Rush

James A Rush, age 87, passed away on September 6, 2025 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was born January 27, 1938 in Waynesburg, PA to Marian C. and Ernest J. Rush.

He graduated from Waynesburg Central High School Class of 1955 and attended Waynesburg College studying business. He was also a member the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Jim was the Vice-Pres for DonMoor Corp at Greenway Mfg in Waynesburg, PA and the Big River Plant in Kittanning, PA for 24 years. He moved to Spartanburg, SC in 1987 to continue his work in the textile industry. He was the Plant Manager of Spartan Undies for five years. Jim then opened his own sewing plant, Greenway Mfg, in Spartanburg, SC. In 2001, he went to work at S & S Mfg (Land & Sea) as Inventory Control Manager until 2012. Jim retired in 2012 at the age of 74.

Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesburg for many years. When he moved to South Carolina, he became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church of Spartanburg. He was a member there for more than 25 years. He was a Deacon, served on many committees and was the church treasurer for several years.

He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Mardy J. Rush.

He is also survived by his children Beth Troxell (Dan), Lori Bedillion (Sheldon), Doug Pheffer all from Spartanburg, Jim Rush (Yvonne) of Waynesburg PA, Joni Garrett (Ron) of Wellford and Rebecca Rush of Anderson. Jim was also blessed with 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren whom he loved and adored.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Ankrom, brothers, Jack Rush and Charles “Buck” Rush and a sister, Barbara Policz.

Jim was a stained glass artist who blessed his family with many cherished pieces. He also enjoyed gardening, working on family ancestry and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers.

Services will be held on Sunday September 14, 2025 at the J.M Dunbar Funeral Home (690 Southport Rd, Roebuck, SC 29376) with visitation from 1:00 – 1:45 PM with a celebration ceremony at 2:00. PM Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery (350 N. Blackstock Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29301) following the service.
