James Vernon Payne

Spartanburg, SC- James Vernon Payne, 81, husband of Jane Bishop Payne, died Monday, January 4, 2021. Born July 1, 1939 in Spartanburg, SC, Vernon was a son of the late John Alex and Myrtle Aline Vaughn Payne. He was an avid golfer and a member of Legacy at Beaver Hills Church. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Vernon is survived by his son, James Howard Payne (Elizabeth) of Fairhope, AL; a grandchild, and the apple of his eye, Evan Payne (Raeann) of Spartanburg, SC; two great grandchildren, Rhiannon and Salem Payne; a brother, William H. Payne (Karen) of Townville, SC; and special cousins, Randy and Cindy Hyatt, Frank and Debbie Hyatt, and Angie and Glenn Foster. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 9th, 2:00PM in Heritage Memorial Gardens, officiated by Reverend Manning Strickland and Reverend John Cox.
