Jean Elizabeth Pollock Quantz

Mar 21, 1944 — Aug 17, 2026

Spartanburg, SC

Jean Elizabeth Pollock Quantz, affectionately known as “Jeanie,” died on August 17, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born March 21, 1944, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jeanie was the daughter of the late Coyt Lamar Pollock and Jeanette Rawls Pollock.

On August 12, 1966, she married the love of her life, Francis Patterson “Pat” Quantz. Jeanie and Pat first met at Camp Cherokee, beginning a love story and partnership that would span 60 years. Their devotion to one another was evident to everyone who knew them and was admired by many.

Jeanie graduated from Winthrop College with a degree in Elementary Education. Over the years, she put that degree—and her natural love of people—to work as an elementary school teacher, preschool teacher, and library assistant. She also served for a time on the Spartanburg County School Board.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. At First Presbyterian Church, she served as a Deacon and was involved in Stephen Ministry. At Westminster Presbyterian, she was a faithful early service attendee as well as circle member. Her faith was not something she simply professed; she lived it through the way she cared for people, particularly those who needed a little extra help or encouragement.

Jeanie loved to gather people together. She entertained often, both at home and at her beloved home away from home, the River. She and Pat could seemingly put together dinner for six or forty with equal ease. Fourth of July celebrations at the Lake were among her favorites, filled with family, friends, food, and fun. Her Christmas Eve parties were legendary and could stretch into the wee hours of Christmas morning.

For Jeanie, though, caring for people went far beyond entertaining. She had a heart for anyone who needed help. Whether what was needed was a meal, clothing, money, a listening ear, or simply her time, Jeanie was there. And many who loved her knew the experience of opening the mailbox to find a thoughtful letter that somehow arrived at exactly the right moment.

In addition to her husband, Pat, Jeanie is survived by her two daughters, Frances Bland Quantz Calvert and her husband, Charles, of Spartanburg, and Elizabeth Boyd Quantz Farrell and her husband, Matthew, of Mount Pleasant; and by her four grandchildren, Frances Calvert, Vivian Calvert, Boyd Farrell, and Clay Farrell. Her only sister, Carol Kenny, died in 2025.

Jeanie was also blessed with many, many dear friends—a fitting reflection of a woman who spent her life making room for others.

She will be remembered for her boundless energy, her deep faith, her generous heart, her love of family and friends, and her remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed and cared for.

Jeanie showed up—for celebrations, for hard times, for her community, and most of all, for the people she loved. She lived fully, loved generously, and gave freely of herself. Those who knew her will miss the unmistakable warmth, spirit, and verve.

A worship service celebrating the life of Jeanie will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg. The family will receive friends following the service at their home.

In memory of Jeanie, contributions may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, c/o Spartanburg Regional Foundation, PO Box 2624, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or Mobile Meals, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
