Juanita Wood Lewis, 88, beloved wife of the late James Carl Lewis, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026. She was born on January 2, 1938, in Athens, Georgia, to the late J.C. Wood and Bertha Burroughs Wood.
Juanita was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Church and loved the Lord deeply. Her faith was an important part of her life. Juanita retired from the School for the Deaf and Blind after 10 years of dedicated service.
Juanita was known for her generous heart, wonderful sense of humor, and ability to bring laughter to those around her. She was a great cook who loved sharing meals with her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, tending to both flowers and vegetables. She loved to travel and was always ready for a new adventure. She especially appreciated the beauty of nature, enjoying sunrises, sunsets, and quiet nights spent under the stars.
She is survived by her children, Carl Lewis (Elizabeth), Merri Caldwell (Ricky), and Lee Sturgill (Chris); her grandchildren, Darren Caldwell (Kortney), Kyle Caldwell (Breanna), C.J. Sturgill (Sammie), and Aaron Sturgill; and her great-grandchildren, Kinley Jane Caldwell and Lindan Lorraine Caldwell. She is also survived by her brother, William H. Wood, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Wood and Jimmy Wood, and is survived by Jimmy's wife, Betty Wood.
She will be remembered for the love, laughter, kindness, and warmth she brought into the lives of her family and all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Juanita's honor to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Graveside services will be at 10:00am on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29307, officiated by Reverend Sal Barone.
