Julia Chitwood Lancaster

Julia Chitwood Lancaster, 81, of Walnut Grove, SC passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025. She was born in Polk County, NC on September 3, 1943 to the late Robert and Betty Edwards Chitwood.

A graduate of Spartanburg High School, Class of 1961, Julia lived a life rooted in faith, creativity, and love. She was a faithful and active member of Walnut Grove Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and gave of her time and heart to her church family. Julia’s voice, both in song and spirit, uplifted those around her.

Julia found joy in life’s simple pleasures — baking, painting, and singing. Her love for children led her to open and run a daycare, where she nurtured countless young lives with care and compassion. But above all, Julia’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend — always ready with a smile, a song, or something warm from the oven.

Julia is survived by her husband of 63 years, Stanley Madison Lancaster; daughter, Cindy Norris (Joey); sons, Wesley Lancaster (Michelle) and David Lancaster (Jennifer); grandchildren, Kayla MacLeod (Ryan), Jody Lancaster (Macie), and Carly Lancaster; and great-grandchildren, Elijah MacLeod, Bristol Lancaster, Beau Lancaster, and Baylen Lancaster. She was the last of ten children, predeceased by her brothers, Bill Chitwood, Johnny Chitwood, Preston Chitwood, and Dean Chitwood; and sisters, Francis Whitesell, Anise McSwain, Christine Peeler, Margie Giles, and Merle Parry.

Memorial services will be 3:00pm on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Walnut Grove Methodist Church, 1335 Walnut Grove Rd, Roebuck, SC 29376, conducted by Rev. Chris Snelgrove. Visitation will follow the services in the Family Life Center.
