Mary Jean Owens

Mary Jean Owens, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. To welcome her were her husband, Kenneth, and sons, Jeffrey and Jeremy.

She was born on April 18, 1940, to the late Fred and Pearl Bruce. She had humble beginnings and led a very fruitful, happy, active life filled with family, friends, and many activities. She loved her work, serving her friends and customers.

In 1958, Mary married Ralph Kenneth Owens. They were blessed to celebrate over 63 years together, raising their four children. She was a force of nature and the heart of her family, known for her incredible kindness, grace, compassion, and generosity, always willing to aid anyone in need. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left to carry on her traditions are her daughters, Robin O. Tapp Ward (Steven) and Vickie Jane Owens (David); and adopted son, Bhagirath “Buddy” Bhatt (Ina). Mary’s legacy will live on through her five grandchildren, Brandon Tapp (Jessica), Jason Tapp (Rachel), Nathan Tapp (Brandy), Jonathan Eddy (Lynn), and Kyle Eddy; her seven great-grandchildren, Hailey Jean, Bryce, Dominick, Skylar, Mason, Baylee, and Daxton Owen; and her siblings, Ronnie Bruce and Betty Bright.

Along with her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her sons, Jeffrey Owens and Jeremy Owens; brothers, Dean Bruce and Bud Bruce; and sisters, Evelyn McClure, Margaret Smith, Helen Fletcher, and Sandra Anders.

She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all.

Graveside services will be 12:00 PM on Monday, March 23, 2026 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Rev. Brad Atkins.
