Simpsonville, SC

Matthew Gordon Williams, 21, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, passed away on June 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Matthew was born on October 5, 2004 in Greenville, SC to Elizabeth and Kevin Williams.

Matthew courageously battled DSRCT, a rare and aggressive cancer, for one year and five months. Throughout his journey, he demonstrated remarkable strength, resilience, and faith.

Matthew was an extraordinary young man who was wise beyond his years. Matthew graduated from Eastside High school before becoming a dedicated student at The University of South Carolina, where he consistently earned Dean’s List honors while pursuing studies in Computer Science and Physics. His intelligence was matched only by his humility, kindness, and compassion for others.

A loving son, brother, grandson, and friend, Matthew touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be remembered for his pure heart, quick wit, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for those around him. He had a deep passion for music, animals, fishing, his Christian faith, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Matthew is survived by his devoted parents, Elizabeth and Kevin Williams; his sisters, Lisa Myrick and Laura Williams; his loving grandparents, Harwell Coale, Julian Williams, and Betty Williams; and his cherished pets, Honey, Bella, and Memphis. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be forever missed.

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday June 6, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg, with a visitation from 11:00AM to 12:15PM in the Social Hall, and a memorial service to follow in the Sanctuary at 12:30 PM. A private burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Matthew may be made to "The Brett Tashman Foundation", 1723 Brentwood Ave. Upland, CA, 91784.   https://thebretttashmanfoundation.org/donate/

Though his time on earth was far too short, Matthew’s legacy of faith, kindness, courage, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
