Maureen McIntyre Metz

August 3, 1962 — March 17, 2026

Maureen McIntyre Metz passed away March 17th, 2026, in Greenwood, SC.

A friend to many and a stranger to few, Maureen was at her happiest when loving and serving others. From hosting numerous events for family and friends, and never forgetting birthdays, Maureen was known for her warm, genuine ways. She did so much good for so many people and we choose to remember her for the difference she made in the lives of those around her. A devout Catholic, Maureen prayed for many and cared deeply for those experiencing homelessness. She was a woman of many talents, the go-to source for a question, and the giver of great advice. She made amazing birthday meals for Phil, and every child, grandchild, and in-law featuring all their favorite things that she always kept track of. She loved Christmas and seeing the magic of Christmas in the eyes of her family. She was very proud of her Irish family heritage and her passing on one of her favorite holidays, St. Patrick’s Day, was befitting of her love of Ireland.

Maureen was born to Michael Edward McIntyre and Mary Bowen McIntyre at Spartanburg General Hospital on August 3rd, 1962. She attended Spartanburg High School and USC Spartanburg. She was employed by Milliken at the time of her passing and was a former longtime employee of Metromont.

Maureen met the love of her life, Phil Metz at USC Spartanburg. They would fall in love at Surfside Beach, SC where they would return for family vacations for many years. Their marriage of 42 years was a model of true love and devotion that never wavered and always persevered.

She is survived by her husband, William Phillip Metz of Spartanburg; her siblings, Kathleen McIntyre Jolly of Spartanburg, Colleen McIntyre Kibler of Moore, and Michael Francis McIntyre of Dacula, GA. She leaves behind her three beloved children who she was able to see graduate college and be married; they are eternally grateful for her love, devotion and countless sacrifices. They are Brittany Metz Mason (Jeff) of Spartanburg, Dr. Joseph Michael Metz (Lacy) of North Myrtle Beach, and Megan Metz Davis (Dylan) of Pauline. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren, Hudson William Davis, Harrison Michael Davis, and Ava Marie Mason.

She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary McIntyre; mother-in-law, Marilyn Miller Metz; father-in-law, William Joseph Metz; and brother-in-law, Bill Kibler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 290 E Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
