Michael Deane Johnson

Michael Deane Johnson, 58, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Saturday, June 13th at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home surrounded by his family. Michael was born September 13th, 1967 (or the 14th, depending on who you ask) in Fort Myers, Florida, to the late Donnee and Lamont Johnson.

Michael grew up in the Fort Myers area and was always a Florida boy at heart. Boats, the water, and cars were a first love. He graduated from Florida State University (Go Noles!) and pursued a career as a general contractor both in Atlanta, GA, and locally. His attention to detail and knowledge of building was second to none. The love and respect he had for his customers always showed through in the final product.

Michael is survived by his wife, Shannon; his children, Nina and Ian; his sister, Deanne Collis (Lee); and niece, Sophia Collis of Naples, FL. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Kay Phillips; sister-in-law, Shelley Sullivan, and her family Sydney Christmas (Andrew) and their daughter, Tallulah, and Spencer Sullivan of Spartanburg. We will all remember Michael as a dad and husband first, our go to fix it guy, our Thanksgiving turkey fryer extraordinaire, impeccable yard master, Christmas inflatable enthusiast, and for his inability to sit still and let life (or sticks in the yard) pass him by.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 5-7pm at the J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation or the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
