Michael John Klatchak Jr.

Michael John Klatchak, Jr., 73, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026. He was the son of the late Michael John and Jean Slupski Klatchak. Michael was a loving son, husband, and brother.

Michael was born on January 17, 1953, at Fort Lawton in Seattle, Washington. He spent his childhood in Washington, Alaska, Georgia, France, Germany and Massachusetts before settling in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. Michael graduated from Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and did his graduate work at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Michael was an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Moravian University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Institute of Management Accountants where he met his bride, Claire M. Long. Michael was a member of the Rotary Club and the Lehigh Wheelmen Association. One of his greatest pleasures was taking long Sunday afternoon bike rides.

Michael is survived by his wife of 45 years, Claire Long Klatchak of Boiling Springs, SC, his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Joanne Klatchak of Chesnee, SC, his sister-in-law Kathleen Purtle of Topeka, Kansas and many loving cousins.

Visitation will be held at 10:00-10:45am on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 290 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am with Rev. David R. Whitman officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Michael be sent to Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 North Dean Street Spartanburg, SC 29302.
