Patrick Nelson Wise Jr.

August 3, 1931 — April 17, 2024

Spartanburg

Patrick Nelson “Pat” Wise, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on April 17, 2024. Pat was born in Aiken, SC on August 3, 1931 to Patrick N. Wise, Sr. and Nina Bell Wise and grew up in Williston, Dunbarton, Trenton and Vacluse with his brother and best friend, Wallace (Wally). He graduated from Clemson University 1953 with a mechanical engineering degree and served the U.S. Air Force in Japan. His return from his tour with several of his service mates provided material for many stories through the years. Pat soon went to work for General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts where he also learned to ski and play golf. General Electric transferred him to Columbia just in time to meet Faye Yon on an elevator in their apartment building. They married on June 25, 1960 and enjoy 44 wonderful years of marriage. Faye died suddenly on July 14, 2004. In 1961, Pat and Faye moved to Cincinnati where son David was born in 1961. They returned to Columbia where Stephen was born in 1965. The family has many great memories and funny stories from their years on Wedgefield Road and Boundbrook Lane. In 1980, Pat and family moved to Simpsonville, SC to work for Kemet in Greenville, SC. He retired in 1997. “Pop” (as he is known to his children and grandchildren) spent most of his retirement years pursuing his various interests and hobbies and watching his grandchildren play and perform at every opportunity. A consistent presence, often seated in his special chair with Faye by his side. Even after her death, Pat faithfully followed his grandchildren’s activities.

Pat was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church in Columbia where he taught high school Sunday School and sang in the Men’s choir. Upon moving to Simpsonville, he joined Edwards Road Baptist Church and taught his adult Sunday School class. Later he would join 1st Baptist Church of Simpsonville, SC. He moved to Spartanburg in 2011 and joined Westminster Presbyterian Church. Pat taught his sons to work hard, care for others, and to be faithful and generous in all things.

All who know Pat will remember his laughter, curiosity, intelligence, integrity, and kindness. Pop will be remembered by his sons as a man of integrity who loved them well. His grandchildren will always be grateful for the interest he took and encouragement he gave to each one. The family is very grateful to the caregivers at White Oak Estates and for the care he received there.

A service of his celebration of life and resurrection will be held on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2:30 led by his son, Rev. Dr. Steve Wise.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Goforth Recovery (attn: donations) P.O. Box 6560, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or Westminster Presbyterian Church, 309 Fernwood Dr. Spartanburg, SC 29307.
