Phillip Gardner Simons of Roebuck, SC passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at the age of 74. He was born in Suffolk, VA on July 8, 1952 to the late Edward O. and Louise G. Simons.
Phil was a graduate of East Tennessee State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and played on the tennis team. His love of nature was an important part of his life. He spent more than 30 years working as a landscaper, a career that allowed him to do what he enjoyed most.
He especially loved spending time at the beach, where he could relax, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life. Phil also had a great passion for sports. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, with a particular love for New York Yankees baseball.
Phil was a personable, friendly man who had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome. He had a genuine warmth that made him someone people enjoyed being around.
Phil was a man of Baptist faith, and his faith was an important part of his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on through the people he touched, the friendships he made, and the many moments shared with those closest to him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Donna Trail Simons; son, Shawn Simons of Charleston, SC; step-daughter, Rhiannon Wyatt (Daniel) of Roebuck, SC; step-son, DJ Wooten (Jessica) of Jacksonville, NC; and grandchildren, Kylie, Jackson, Kaitlin, Julia, Caidenn, and Kimber. Along with his parents, Phil was predeceased by his sister, Susan S. Barnes (Joe).
Funeral services will be 10:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2026 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, conducted by Rev. Pete Bove. The family will receive friends following the service.
