Rachel Green Mabry, 89, a lifelong resident of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully on February 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her three children (affectionately known as her "chickens"): Robert Mabry of North Attleboro, MA; Kathleen Yelverton (Bob) of Biltmore Forest, NC; and Donna Wall (Brian) of Boiling Springs, SC. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Jamie Gatewood and Christopher Wall; two great-grandchildren, Rex and Charlotte Gatewood; her brother, Joseph Green; and her sister, Rebecca Settle (Lewis), both of Spartanburg.
Rachel was the daughter of the late Robert Lovelace and Edna Shurburtt Green. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Lovelace Green Jr., Oscar Wayne Green, and her twin brother, Richard Malcolm Green.
A 1954 graduate of Spartanburg High School, Rachel attended Cecil’s Business College before beginning her professional life. She eventually retired from the Milliken Research Center, where she was a proud recipient of the Milliken Award of Excellence. She also held fond memories of the time she spent working at Mister Donut alongside her twin brother, Richard, and her children.
A lifelong member of Beaumont United Methodist Church, Rachel was a dedicated volunteer for her church, Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, and Mobile Meals of Spartanburg. She was always up for a road trip, whether she was square dancing, traveling with her family, or exploring with her dear friend, Faye Oxley. At home, she found joy in tending her flowers, antiquing, and working on a jigsaw puzzle.
Rachel will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC, on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 12:00 PM with Reverend Ed Traxler officiating.
In remembrance of Rachel, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
