Raeann Lane May, 77, of Spartanburg, SC passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Clinton, IL to the late Martha Jane Coultas Lane and Raymond Othel Lane.
Raeann earned her nursing degree from St. John’s College of Nursing and dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her career as a registered nurse in the hospital setting, later served as a school nurse, and eventually found her calling in home health care.
Outside of nursing, Raeann had a warm and welcoming spirit that made everyone feel seen and loved. She had the gift of conversation, loved to chat, and was an even better listener. She loved to play bridge and spent her final morning with friends doing just that. She was known for her thoughtful nature, her love of shopping, and her delicious treats, especially her no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies and her famous strawberry pie.
Raeann was a devoted and attentive grandmother who never missed a moment. She remembered everyone’s favorite snack, celebrated every accomplishment, and never showed up empty-handed. Whether it was a school play, a sporting event, or a casual visit, she was there—supportive, generous, and full of love.
Her faith was central to her life. A faithful member of Church at The Mill, Raeann loved her Lord deeply and lived out her beliefs through her kindness, hospitality, and steady presence in the lives of others. Raeann’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and quiet strength. She will be dearly missed and joyfully remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Kyle May (Donna) of Decatur, IL, and Natalie Mumma (Derick) of Moore, SC; grandchildren, Garett May (Abigail Palmiter), Maddie Mumma, Lucas May, Marissa May, and Aubrey Mumma; and cat, Sasha.
Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home & Crematory, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 PM, conducted by Rev. Gene Pace.
To honor Raeann’s vibrant spirit, the family kindly invites guests to wear her favorite colors, purple and pink. Incorporating butterflies in clothing or accessories is also encouraged, as a tribute to the joy and beauty she brought to the world.
In memory of Raeann, contributions may be made to Church at The Mill, 4455 Anderson Mill Road, Moore, SC 29369.
