Richard Len West Blackwell

Richard Len West Blackwell, 49, of Shelby, NC, husband of Sharon Cobb Blackwell, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Born April 19, 1977, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Charles Leslie Blackwell and Susanne Smith Blackwell.

Richard dedicated 24 years of his life to serving his community as a firefighter in Spartanburg County. He was also an ordained minister, whose faith and love for others were an important part of his life. At the time of his passing, he was employed with Tribe Transport.

Richard had a passion for motorcycles, enjoyed hunting, and, above all, loved helping others. Whether through his years of service as a firefighter, his faith, or simply lending a helping hand to someone in need, Richard found great joy in making a difference in the lives of those around him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his sons, Dylan Blaze Blackwell and Robert Harrison Blackwell; stepson, James Carringer (Kirsten); stepdaughter, Sara Carringer; two sisters, Candace Blackwell Pruitt (Josh) and Kaylan Blackwell Looper (Ernest); three grandchildren, Nayland Carringer, Kendall Carringer, and Conner Clark. He also leaves behind a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with countless friends who held a special place in his heart. Richard’s kindness, friendship, and genuine love for others touched more lives than can ever be counted.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 12 PM at Friendship Baptist Church, 830 Friendship Church Rd, Pauline, SC 29374. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary beginning at 11 AM. Burial to follow in church cemetery.
