Richard Dennis Smith

In Loving Memory of Richard Dennis Smith Richard Dennis Smith, born on September 30, 1943, peacefully passed away on November 18, 2023. His parents, Raymond Guy Smith and Adele Virginia Banks Smith, preceded him in death. Richard is survived by his wife, Rita Smith, and their children, Amy (Matt) Ryan and Ben (Liz) Smith, and grandchildren, Nora and Hank Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Mike (Vandy) Smith, and their sons, Stuart, David, and Andrew Smith. He is further remembered by his mother-in-law, Beulah Kilpatrick. Richard graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Wofford College and later obtained a Master of Divinity from Wake Forest Seminary. He served with dedication in the Naval Reserves and devoted much of his time to prison ministry. Richard was a member and teacher at the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Much of Richard's career was spent at the Department of Social Services, making meaningful contributions to the Children's Shelter and Senior Adults. His friendly nature made him a beloved resident during his short time at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg. A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 2nd, at All Saints Church of Spartanburg, 401 E. Kennedy Street, Suite B7. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, 419 E. Main St. , Spartanburg, SC 29302, an organization where he often volunteered.
