Robert “Bob” Abell Shelor, Jr.

Robert (Bob) Abell Shelor, Jr, husband of Barbara Grayson Shelor, died February 2, 2023. 

Born February 11, 1937 in Sumter, SC, Bob was an Eagle Scout, Valedictorian of The Bolles School, Jacksonville, FL, and received a BA in Political Science from Stanford University in 1958. He was a Captain in the US Army Infantry - Airborne at Fort Benning, GA. On June 4, 1960, he married Barbara Grayson Shelor and moved to Spartanburg in 1964. 

In Spartanburg, Bob was a member of the Vestry and Trustee of Advent Foundation at the Church of the Advent. He was President of Country Club of Spartanburg, Spartanburg Rotary Club, and the Senior Golfers of South Carolina. Bob practiced law, specializing in Commercial and Real Estate Law, was General Counsel to the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and Member of the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, Bob is survived by his son, Robert Michael Shelor and his wife, Ann; and daughter, Katharine “Kari” Shelor Roever and her husband, Alex; five grandchildren, Ben, Grayson Shelor, Will, Jay, and Kate Roever; and sister, Katharine “Kit” Shelor Coker.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 8th, 4pm, at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg, followed by a reception at the Parish and Community Life Center.
