Robert Bryant Hunt, 67, affectionately known as “Boogie”, died at home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The son of the late Harold Taft Hunt and Bobbie Lou Foil Hunt, he was born in Spartanburg.
Boogie graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1977 and attended the University of South Carolina where he became a rabid Gamecock fan. He spent several years working for Diversco in Spartanburg. After moving with his family to Decatur, Alabama in 2000, he continued with Diversco until 2007. From 2007 to 2017, he was employed by ABBCO Service Corporation in Decatur and continued employment with ABBCO until 2019 after returning to Spartanburg.
Boogie cherished his daughters, Elizabeth and Emily, and was proud of their many accomplishments over the years. He loved dogs, and he enjoyed photography, movies, Stephen King novels, Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, and any opportunity to play in the snow.
Always a loyal friend, Boogie valued his lifelong relationships that began by growing up in a neighborhood of tight-knit families. In grade school, some of his favorite activities included playing on the Fernwood football team and visiting his cousins in Darlington, SC. Boogie’s many friends appreciated his warmth, charm, laughter, and zest for life.
Boogie was confirmed at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg and then joined St. John’s Episcopal Church in Alabama. As part of his spiritual journey, he attended Cursillo Weekend Retreat and joined the Men’s Reunion Group at St. John’s.
Boogie is survived by his daughters, Camilla Elizabeth Hunt (fiancé Drew Cox) and Emily Adams Hunt Sankey (Bobby). He is also survived by his sister, Camilla Hunt Cantrell (Jeff); his brother, Harold Taft Hunt, Jr. (Kem); nephews, Taft Hunt III (Jacqui), Michael McCraw (Marianne), and Neil McCraw (Becky); and his daughters’ mother, Teri Warth Hunt.
A memorial service to celebrate Boogie’s life will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Advent on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM, officiated by the Reverend Paula Griffin. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the Parish and Community Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303, or the Episcopal Church of the Advent Foundation, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
