Robert Lee Sutherland Sr., 91, beloved husband of 63 years, to Edna Harbin Sutherland, passed away on April 3rd, 2024, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. Robert was born in Anderson, SC, in 1932, to the late Gertrude and Lawrence Augustus Sutherland, 
 
Throughout his life, Robert excelled in various endeavors. He was a graduate of  Anderson High School and later attended the University of Arkansas. Robert's sense of duty led him to join the Army, and serve as a tank commander during the Korean War, earning the rank of SGT for his exemplary service.
 
In his professional life, Robert thrived in the chemical manufacturing industry before retiring and immersing himself in his passions. An avid gardener, he found solace and joy in cultivating nature's beauty. Beyond gardening, Robert was actively involved in various clubs, including the Greenville Coin Club, the Carpenters Table, Carpenters for Christ, the Spartanburg Stamp Club, and the Spartanburg Men's Garden Club.
 
Known for his selflessness and generous spirit, Robert was always there for his family and friends, whether through acts of kindness or volunteering in his community. His unwavering devotion touched many lives and will be cherished for years to come.
 
Robert is survived by his beloved wife Edna Harbin Sutherland; sons Robert Lee Sutherland Jr.(Denise), and Michael Lynn Sutherland(Tressa); daughters, Janice S. Kelly, and Tina S. Justice(Tim); a brother, Lawrence Sutherland(Patsy), sisters Mary S. Kelley and Martha S. Peeler(Dennis); along with eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Alice E. Sutherland, and a brother, James Sutherland, and a brother in law, Charles Kelley.
 
A Graveside Service to honor Robert's life will take place on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, 3:30 PM, at Heritage Memorial Gardens in Roebuck, SC, with military honors.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
