Mrs. Sherry Blackmon Hill, 72, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023.
She was born Nov. 30, 1950, in Monroe, N.C., a daughter of the late Johnnie Carson Blackmon and Mary Louise Gregory Blackmon. Sherry was a loving and generous woman who brought positivity and kindness to all she knew. Sherry was intelligent and verbose, known for writing letters and texts that rivaled literary masterpieces. She enjoyed painting and nature and found joy watching the birds gather and plants grow in her lush garden. Sherry began her career as a health educator and then spread her love of education and science as a junior high school teacher. She then retired to focus on what was her greatest passion of all: her family. In this role Sherry and her beloved husband Terry proudly raised two daughters: Lee Segrest (Brant) of Greenville, SC and MeganRagone (Jared) of Winston-Salem, NC.
Sherry and Terry shared a love of golf, entertaining, spirited conversation and spending time at the coast. Sherry would often talk of the great love she found with husband Terry, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Sherry’s most prized role was acting as Nana to her five grandchildren: Ava, Carson, Lily, William, and Libby Brown. Nana Sherry was known for creating the most spectacular adventures for her grandchildren full of baking, crafts, snuggles, and epic story-telling. Sherry’s most joyful moments were with her darling grandbabies.
Sherry is also known as a loving sister to her surviving siblings, Rochelle Helms (Willis), Donna Cadieu (Jim), Kaye Francis Carnes (Russell) and Novice Sigmon. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Terry Blackmon, Jerry Blackmon, her Johncy Ghant.
Sherry’s final days were filled with support and love from her dear friends and family. She will be remembered in fond stories of fun, laughter, hospitality, and brilliant debate.
A celebration of life for Sherry will be held Saturday, May 20th, 3:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Luke’s Free Medical Clinic.
