Shirley Ann Pridgen

Shirley Ann (Lindsey) Pridgen of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the age of 89. She was born in Nash County, NC to the late William and Margaret Taylor Lindsey.

Shirley was a truly amazing soul whose vibrant spirit, generous heart, and contagious joy touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a way of lighting up every room she entered and making the people around her feel loved, welcomed, and important.

Well-known as a vibrant cheerleader during her high school years, Shirley never really stopped cheering. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious, and she was often the life of the party. Shirley had a heart that seemed to have no limits. She was kind, selfless, compassionate, and deeply devoted to her family and friends. She loved with her whole heart and always wanted to be involved in the lives of the people she cared about.

She had a special gift for making people feel comforted and cared for. Her Southern comfort food was one of the many ways she expressed her love. Everyone knew meals made by Shirley were made with care, generosity, and plenty of love. Shirley loved music of all kinds and her church family at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was a member for many years. She cherished the holidays, when she could celebrate traditions and gather with the people who meant the most to her. She also proudly followed her beloved Tar Heels basketball team, cheering them on with the same enthusiasm she brought to everything else she loved.

She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Tyson and Leanne Cox; grandchildren, Rachel Jeffries (Brian), Franny Cox, and Sydney Cox; and great-grandchildren, Daphne Jeffries, Grant Jeffries, Poppy Bridges, Parker Stribling, and Davis Gregory. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ottis Obie Tyson, Jr. and second husband, Gene Russell Pridgen.

Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2026 in J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.

Shirley’s presence was a gift. Her laughter, her cheers, her warmth, her cooking, and most of all, her enormous heart will be deeply missed. She leaves behind memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles for years to come.
