Steve Stewart

April 1, 1955 — September 6, 2025

Steve Stewart, resident of Lake Lure, NC and son of Lee and Myrtle Stewart, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025. As a physician of 44 years, Steve attended to the medical needs of countless patients in the upstate. He headed the Emergency Room at Mary Black Hospital upon its initial founding. Later, he was the Doctor at Mary Black Urgent Care, Spartanburg Regional Hospital, and the Doctor for several upstate Imaging Centers.

Steve enjoyed his close family immensely. He was “Uncle Steve” to many. He was an avid traveler who visited every continent, and he loved collecting. His most valued collection was his family and friends with whom he enjoyed many adventures in life.

He was born April 1, 1955, in Greenwood, SC. Steve graduated from Greenwood Highschool (Class of 1973), Clemson University (Class of 1976), and Medical University of South Carolina (Class of 1981). Lake Lure was his home for over 40 years, where he enjoyed many adventures in life.

He is survived by his brother, Barry Stewart (Terrilyn); niece, Marie Maijala (Will), and their daughter, Ellie; nephews, Brian Stewart and Steve Stewart (Vilma); cousin, Bill Ambrose; and numerous significant family members and friends, including close friends Berkely Young and Ty Wright.

A Celebration of Life is planned in Lake Lure at a later date in the fall. 

Memorial Service and Internment will be conducted at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Details to follow.
