Sue Boone McKenzie

December 25, 1940 — January 4, 2026

Spartanburg, SC

Sue Boone McKenzie, 85, died peacefully Sunday, January 4, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rogers and Mary Walker. She was born on December 25, 1940 in Savannah, GA and grew up both on Tybee Island, GA and in Savannah, GA. She moved to Spartanburg, SC in 1977.

She was a proud business owner who opened her own real estate company, Omega Properties, in 1981. She spent over 40 years doing work she truly loved. She worked tirelessly, cared deeply for every client, and built lasting relationships through her honesty, dedication, and hard work. Helping people find a place to call home brought her great joy. Sue never wanted to stop selling houses; she truly loved her work and the people she helped. Even into her later years, her passion and drive remained strong. It was only at the loving insistence of her son and daughter that she finally stepped away from her career at the age of 80.

Sue loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church Spartanburg. For many years, she co-led the Divorce Care ministry at her church, where she compassionately supported and encouraged others during one of life’s most difficult seasons. She genuinely cared for every person who attended, offering understanding, hope, and comfort to all who walked through the program.

She is survived by her husband, Darryl McKenzie; her son, Michael Dupree (Lori); her daughter, Joy Bryant; and her grandchildren, Camille Bryant, Elise Bryant, Juliette Bryant and Caroline Dupree.

Visitation will be 3:00-3:45 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM, conducted by Rev. Gary Ward.

Burial will be 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 12, 2025 in Middleground Baptist Church Cemetery in Newington, GA.

Sue lived a full and happy life. She worked extremely hard, yet truly loved what she did, finding fulfillment in both her career and the people she helped. Together, she and Darryl shared a love of travel, taking many trips each year around the world, both on their own and with dear friends, creating countless cherished memories along the way. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many and she will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at Restoration at Westgate, Restorative Care and Family Hospice, who so lovingly and compassionately cared for her.
