Thomas Eugene Cartee

Thomas Eugene Cartee, 82, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Spartanburg on May 29, 1942, a son of the late Gus Leonard and Myrtle Mae (Towery) Cartee.

He worked for many years as a truck driver with Porter’s Asphalt & Paving and as a mechanic at Cartee’s Garage. Thomas loved to fish and spend time with his weenie dogs. He was known for being funny and a great storyteller who could always make people laugh. More than anything, Thomas loved his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Thomas is survived by his daughters, Sharon Waddell (Keith) of Woodruff, Tammy Lewis of Roebuck, and Ashley Cartee of Cross Anchor; son, Bobby Cartee (Courtney) of Roebuck; brother, Roger Cartee (Shirley); sisters, Betty Blanchard and Judy Arrington (Leroy); best friend, Dean Sellars; and his many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy Cartee; children, Richard Cartee and Debra Huckabee; siblings, Leonard “Junior” Cartee, Mary “Sister” Shropshire, Sylvia “Sib” Faulks, and Elaine Beach; brother-in-law, Silas “Junior” Blanchard; grandsons, Tyler Cartee and Michael Simmons, Jr.; and great-great-granddaughter, Autumn Stevens.

Visitation will be 11:00-11:45 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Chuck Thornton. Interment in Heritage Memorial Gardens will immediately follow.
