Walter Anthony “Buster” Bright, Jr. of Philadelphia, who retired in Moore, SC passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the age of 77.
Buster was born and raised in Flatiron in Kensington, Philadelphia, the son of the late Helen Floreck Bright and Walter Anthony Bright, Sr. He was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School and remained well-known around the area for much of his life, especially to the folks behind the bar at many of his favorite local establishments.
A hardworking man through and through, Buster spent many years as both a cement worker and dock worker before retiring from Terminal Freight, after more than 30 years in the industry, and moving to South Carolina. Buster took great pride in earning an honest living and was equally proud of stretching every dollar. He was a true bargain hunter who never missed a good deal.
Buster was a devoted Philadelphia sports fan, cheering faithfully for the Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies, no matter the season or the score. Some of his favorite days were spent relaxing at home, watching television with his dogs close by, or trying his luck at the casino, whether in person or playing casino games at home.
Above all else, Buster loved his family dearly. If you knew Buster, you had a story about him, and it was always something funny. His loyalty, work ethic, sense of humor, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Buster is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Elizabeth “Tootsie” Bright; son, Dominic Bright (Joann); grandchildren, Taylor, Derick, Dominic, Harley, Bailee, and Anthony (Lyxi); great-grandchildren, Sunny, Francesca, Ayden, Kendrick, and Gabriella; and sisters, Angela Evans and Toni Curry. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Anthony Bright.
