Zane Mallette Hoit, 82, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026.

Born on June 29, 1943 to Zane Moses Hoit and Nell Mallette Hoit, Zane lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for family and friends. He was a proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama, and went on to earn his degree from University of Alabama. His time at the University helped shape the strong work ethic and lifelong friendships he cherished throughout his life.

Following his graduation, Zane answered the call to serve his country as an officer in the United States Air Force. He served honorably, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, demonstrating courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment. His military service remained a source of pride for him and his family.

After his service, Zane built a distinguished career as a civil engineer. He was respected not only for his professional expertise but also for his integrity, steady guidance, and willingness to mentor others in his field.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Zane embraced life fully. He loved spending time on the golf course, sharing good wine with friends, and traveling with his wife Margaret and their circle of family and friends. Whether exploring new destinations or enjoying familiar places, he found great joy in connection, laughter, and shared experiences.

Zane is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Margaret Camp Hoit; his brothers, Larry Hoit and David Hoit; sisters-in-law Jan Hoit and Ginger Hoit; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other loving family members and friends. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and steadfast devotion to those he loved.

A life well lived, Zane leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
