Vollie C. "Vic" Bailey, Jr.

Spartanburg, S. C. – Vollie Cleveland Bailey, Jr., 89 of Spartanburg died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. Born July 6, 1926 in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Pearl Guest and Vollie Cleveland Bailey, Sr. Mr. Bailey was the Chairman of Vic Bailey Automotive, which consists of six new car franchises in Spartanburg. He was very active in the community having served on The Spartanburg County Council, The Appalachian Council of Governments and The South Carolina Highway Commission. Mr. Bailey was awarded an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree by the University of South Carolina. He was a founding director of Carolina Southern Bank and Carolina Alliance Bank in Spartanburg. Mr. Bailey was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Rose Lewis Bailey; sons, Vollie C. (Vic) Bailey, III (Lynn) of Spartanburg and Robert J. Bailey, II of Chicago, Illinois; and daughter, Tracey Bailey Foster (Chip) of Spartanburg; grandsons, Vollie C. (Vic) Bailey IV, Howell J. (Hal) Foster, III (Kristen), and Matthew Holmes Foster; granddaughters, Leslie Bailey Calicutt (Russ), Neely Bailey Darr (Andrew), and Bailey Rose Foster; and great-granddaughter, Hallie Grace Foster. A private graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 28th, 4:00-7:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.
