Cameron Pierce Haar

Spartanburg, SC- Cameron Pierce Haar, 61, died Friday, March 23, 2018 following an extended illness. Cameron grew up in Spartanburg, SC and was the son of Ann Burnett Haar and the late Harry J. Haar, Jr. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Sewanee: The University of the South. Cameron’s employment carried him to Ohio and Kansas, but he always wanted to return to the South. He was employed for 18 years at Tate Metalworks in Spartanburg, SC in business development. A former member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent, he served as a lay reader and on several committees. For seven years, he led the boy’s church basketball league and took great pleasure in teaching good sportsmanship and basketball skills to young boys. Cameron assisted a friend working with Mobile Meals to deliver meals to shut ins. After 9/11, he traveled to New York City with a volunteer group from the Church of the Advent to provide services to the first responders at the St. Paul’s Chapel. Cameron remarked later that it was a deep, life changing experience. In his later years, he enjoyed the beach and loved sailing on his boat, Prince of Tides. In addition to his mother, Cameron is survived by his two daughters, Allison Evermann (Gunnar) and Catie Watson (Tyler) and their mother, Carolyn B. Haar; grandson, Mark; his sister, Mindy (Brad); his brother, Jay (Suzanne); three nephews, Pierce, Mills, and Austin; one niece, Brittany; a cousin, Sara (Ladson) and their twin sons, Craton and Mills; and a special friend Janet Estes. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his favorite uncle, Harry Burnett. Cameron had a deep and abiding faith and he possessed a keen intellect and an inquiring mind. He loved good literature and was an avid reader. “Good-night, sweet prince. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” Hamlet, Act V, Scene 2. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 29th, 2:00PM at The Episcopal Church of the Advent. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parish and Community Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, P O Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or to the charity of one’s choice.
